Introduction

Customer is a personalized curriculum platform for children with autism and Special Educational Needs (SEND). It’s a non-profit organization founded by educators who have specialized in autism education for over 30 years. They want to bring this for learners in UK schools from nursery to adult education.

Their website serves the purpose of providing an assessment program that measures children and young adults against preparing for adulthood outcomes. A customized training package is designed as per the requirement made by the school and or any needs of the learners. The website also provides a platform to learn and report assessment after each task is completed.

The client wanted to streamline the tools and take it online. Originally it was built on excel and worked offline. They need a consolidated mechanism for the task.

They wanted to build an application that will work online as a software service to schools. They required an original and user-friendly application that could be easily integrated into the system.

What We Did?

The Customer application aims to streamline and structure the current personalized curriculum for children with autism and Special Educational Needs (SEND). Their assessment tool measured children and young adults against preparing for adulthood outcomes.

Originally their assessment system was built on excel and worked offline. Thus, if a new task had to be added it had to be replicated in each excel sheet for each student and progress had to be checked separately. Most of the work that happened on the website was quite manual and took a lot of effort.

They wanted to build a platform where users could log-in, and take specialized courses. Furthermore, we added functionalities that allowed their records to be managed directly, such as the class to which they belonged, study duration, progress, and the user could also generate results.

Our team took a deeper look into the needs of the client, with frequent client meetings to create a layout of their expectations versus what could be accomplished in the given time and budget.

The client envisioned their application to be a system with capabilities to add new functionality whenever there arose a need in future.

The Customer application framework was designed keeping in mind the flexibility and scalabilities in future for adding further modules, functionalities and interfaces.

Moreover, the framework was structured on the well-known MVC (Model-View-Controller) architecture where the three pillars were segregated from each other in terms of their purpose.

Outcome

Customer was able to streamline the process by providing one single platform for their user to access the course for the internal team to manage the record in a better way.

Learners and educators from UK colleges (SEN & Specialist Autism College) enrolled in the platform from nursery to adult education, mainstream to specialist education centers.
