Project Overview
CETS is a leading industrial tool distributor serving the metalworking, aerospace, oil & gas, automotive, and firearms industries. They offer an extensive range of carbide cutting tools, CNC tooling, abrasives, and precision instruments. The company’s commitment to quality and customer satisfaction has positioned them as a trusted supplier for modern manufacturing needs.
CETS decided to migrate their existing Magento website (www.cets.com) to Shopify 2.0 to leverage a scalable, user-friendly, and SaaS-based eCommerce platform. The project aimed to preserve the brand’s established look and feel while improving performance, usability, and maintainability.

Project Objectives
- Seamlessly migrate from Magento to Shopify with all critical data, including ~4000 orders, ~1210 customers, and ~25K products.
- Retain the existing website design and user experience, ensuring customers feel continuity.
- Preserve SEO performance by implementing URL redirection and SEO best practices.
- Implement easy-to-manage eCommerce features with improved flexibility.
- Enable integration with eBay and Amazon stores for multi-channel selling.
- Conduct comprehensive testing to ensure all functionalities perform flawlessly.
Project Execution
1. Design and Discovery Process
A complete discovery phase was initiated to analyze the existing Magento setup, functionalities, and customer journey. The Empire Shopify Theme was selected for its flexibility, responsiveness, and premium aesthetics. Brand guidelines were reviewed to ensure the new store visually aligned with CETS’s established identity.
2. Development and Customization
Using Shopify 2.0, the development team implemented and customized the Empire Theme, aligning every component, homepage, collection pages, and product detail pages to the brand’s UI. Customizations were made for advanced search, product filtering, and brand categorization.
Subcollections were organized within the main collections to enhance product discoverability and navigation, enabling customers to browse by brand, tool type, or application category.
3. Content Migration to Shopify
Data migration was executed using Matrixify, ensuring the accurate transfer of:
- ~4000 Orders
- ~1210 Customers
- 25K of 40K Products
- ~10 CMS Pages (About Us, Resources, Scrap Carbide, Request a Quote, Customer Service, etc.)
Custom forms were recreated for “Request a Quote” and “Scrap Carbide” submissions to retain lead generation capabilities.
4. URL Redirection and SEO Preservation
All legacy Magento URLs were carefully redirected to their corresponding Shopify pages to retain SEO juice and prevent ranking loss. Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, and Search Console were reconfigured for tracking and performance analysis.
Key SEO Retention Measures:
- Proper 301 redirects
- Metadata transfer
- Schema preservation
- Canonical tagging and sitemap updates
5. Thorough Testing and Quality Assurance
Comprehensive QA was conducted to ensure:
- Accuracy of migrated data

- Proper functioning of shipping methods (Flat rate, UPS)
- Payment gateway testing (PayPal, Pay Flow, Shopify Payments)
- Functional integrity of third-party integrations (Amazon, eBay)

After User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and performance checks, the domain migration was successfully completed. Post-launch, ongoing monitoring was established to ensure performance stability, with continuous SEO and analytics review for optimization.
