Project Overview
Learn Parallax, the educational portal of Parallax Inc., partnered with Ebizon to migrate their existing Drupal-based website (learn.parallax.com) to WordPress. The platform provides tutorials, interactive lessons, projects, quizzes, and educator resources focused on microcontroller kits like Arduino and Propeller.
The primary objective was to retain all existing functionalities, design structure, and SEO value, while enabling enhanced content management, role-based access for educators, and improved scalability on WordPress — a platform more suited to content-rich educational environments.
Project Objectives
- Successfully migrate the Learn Parallax platform from Drupal to WordPress without compromising design, functionality, or SEO performance.
- Empower educators and administrators with a more intuitive, user-friendly WordPress backend for effortless content updates.
- Preserve and enhance key features, including interactive tutorials, quizzes, educator dashboards, and advanced search filters.
- Ensure a smooth transition of all content, media, and downloadable resources, with SEO continuity maintained through strategic redirects and optimizations.
- Deliver a high-performing, scalable WordPress website that supports Parallax’s educational mission and offers an improved experience for students and educators alike.
Project Execution
1. Design and Discovery Process
The project began with a detailed discovery phase to understand the client’s system, content structure, and functionality needs. This involved:
- Conducting a full crawl of the existing Drupal website
- Identifying all content types (tutorials, educator resources, PDFs, videos, etc.)
- Mapping existing URLs to their WordPress counterparts
- Creating a detailed site architecture and data migration plan
2. Development and Customization
- Delivered a fully custom WordPress solution tailored to replicate and enhance the existing site’s structure and design
- Integrated the LearnPress LMS for managing courses, lessons, quizzes, and educator resources
- Implemented extensive Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) to provide flexible backend control for tutorials, lessons, and downloadable content
- Developed custom role-based access controls, ensuring certain content, such as educator-only resources, is accessible only to verified users
- Created custom post types and templates to maintain a scalable, content-rich platform
- Avoided reliance on bulky page builders, resulting in a lean, performance-optimized solution
- Integrated advanced features, including print-friendly views, keyword search, gated educator content, and dynamic tutorial filtering
3. Content Migration to WordPress
- Migrated complex tutorial series, interactive lessons, and quizzes, organized by robot kits, programming languages, and difficulty levels
- Imported all assets, including PDFs, videos, images, zip files, and educator-specific resources
- Ensured seamless transition of course structures, grouping of lessons under appropriate categories, and linking of multimedia content
- Preserved educator-only gated resources and role-based access to restricted content
- Maintained all relationships between tutorials, lessons, assets, and educator resources to ensure continuity
4. URL Redirection and SEO Preservation
- Conducted a full review of the existing website’s SEO performance and indexed pages before migration
- Ensured all important links from the old Drupal site were properly redirected to the correct pages on the new WordPress site
- Preserved all SEO elements, including page titles, descriptions, keywords, and internal linking between pages
- Optimized the new site for search engines to maintain and improve rankings
- Successfully registered the new website with Google Search Console to monitor performance and indexing
5. Thorough Testing and Quality Assurance
- Tested the website across all major browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge) and devices (desktop, tablet, mobile) to ensure consistent performance
- Verified that key features, including search, filtering, gated educator access, and dashboards, work as expected for all users
- Thoroughly reviewed content formatting, links, and downloads to ensure accurate display and functionality.
- Addressed any bugs or issues to guarantee a smooth, reliable user experience before launch
6. Launch and Ongoing Support
- Deployed the new WordPress website to a staging environment for final review and approval
- Launched the new site live after thorough testing and client confirmation
