Project Overview

Intercare SARL is a Lebanon-based provider of physiotherapy, rehabilitation, occupational therapy, hydrotherapy, and home-care equipment. Established in 1986, the company works with hospitals, clinics, rehabilitation centers, and healthcare professionals while representing internationally recognized medical brands. Its extensive product range includes electrotherapy devices, treatment tables, exercise equipment, mobility aids, hydrotherapy systems, and sensory rehabilitation solutions.

The Intercare SARL website (intercare-sarl.com) serves as an extensive online product catalog, helping healthcare professionals and customers explore equipment categories, review available solutions, and contact the company for further information.

The existing website was running on Joomla 4 with the Helix Ultimate template framework. Intercare SARL partnered with EbizON Digital to upgrade the platform to Joomla 6, while recovering and reconfiguring the Helix Ultimate framework and preserving the site’s existing content, functionality, and SEO attributes.

Project Objectives

The primary goal was to create a secure, stable, and future-ready Joomla environment without disrupting Intercare’s extensive product catalog or existing website experience.

The project focused on:

  • Upgrading the website from Joomla 4 to Joomla 6.
  • Recovering and reconfiguring the Helix Ultimate template framework for Joomla 6 compatibility.
  • Seamlessly transferring existing content, modules, menus, media, and functionality.
  • Preserving the site’s existing product and category structure.
  • Maintaining SEO-critical elements, including URLs and redirects.
  • Retaining Smart Search, article publishing, sidebar navigation, and contact functionality.
  • Testing the upgraded website thoroughly before deployment.
  • Providing training and documentation so the Intercare team could confidently manage the upgraded CMS.

The website contained a substantial product information architecture, including electrotherapy equipment, treatment tables, exercise equipment, mobility products, hydrotherapy equipment, rehabilitation supplies, home-care products, and related categories.

Project Execution

The existing Joomla website was first cloned into a dedicated staging environment.

This provided EbizON’s development and QA teams with a controlled environment where the Joomla upgrade, template recovery, compatibility work, and testing could be completed without affecting the live Intercare website.

02. Joomla 6 Compatibility Assessment

Before beginning the migration, the team reviewed the existing website environment to determine its readiness for Joomla 6.

This included:

  • Performing extension compatibility checks using Joomla’s Pre-Update Check.
  • Reviewing the existing Joomla configuration.
  • Checking PHP compatibility.
  • Validating hosting environment requirements.
  • Identifying templates or extensions requiring updates or reconfiguration.

Special attention was given to the Helix Ultimate framework, since it formed the foundation of the existing website’s presentation layer.

03. Preparing the Existing Joomla Installation

Rather than attempting a direct major-version migration, EbizON planned the upgrade as a controlled, sequential process.

The existing Joomla 4 installation was prepared for migration by bringing its core environment and supporting components to compatible versions before progressing to the next major Joomla release.

04. Joomla 4 to Joomla 5 Upgrade

The website was then moved from Joomla 4 to Joomla 5.

During this phase, templates and extensions were reviewed and updated or replaced wherever necessary to ensure compatibility with Joomla 5.

This intermediate upgrade reduced migration risk and established a stable foundation for the final move to Joomla 6.

05. Joomla 5 to Joomla 6 Upgrade

Once the Joomla 5 environment had been stabilized, the same compatibility process was repeated for Joomla 6.

Required extensions and templates were updated or reconfigured before completing the Joomla 6 upgrade.

This approach helped preserve the website’s existing structure while minimizing the risk of content or functionality being lost during the major-version migration.

06. Helix Ultimate Template Recovery & Reconfiguration

One of the project’s key requirements was preserving the existing website experience built around Helix Ultimate.

EbizON recovered and reconfigured the framework to work with Joomla 6 while retaining the site’s essential layouts and navigation structure.

The migration covered important templates such as:

  • Home
  • Category Listing
  • Sub-Category Listing
  • Product / Category Detail
  • Contact
  • Search Results

The website’s extensive category structure and supporting content were also included in the reconfiguration scope.

07. Website Functionality Reconfiguration

The upgrade was not limited to moving content between Joomla versions. Core website functionality also needed to continue operating correctly.

Key functionality included:

Smart Search: Visitors can quickly search across the website’s extensive collection of products and articles.

Article Management: Joomla’s Article Manager provides the foundation for managing product and category information.

Sidebar Navigation: The website uses structured sidebar navigation to organize a large product hierarchy consisting of 13 categories and 12 sub-categories.

Helix Ultimate: The template framework provides the foundation for the site’s frontend presentation and required recovery and reconfiguration for Joomla 6.

08. Quality Assurance & Upgrade Testing

A structured QA process was incorporated into the migration to identify problems before launch.

Testing covered:

  • Functional testing
  • Database testing
  • Data integrity and cleanliness
  • Module verification
  • Content template validation
  • Broken links and URLs
  • Image and media mapping
  • SEO metadata
  • URL aliases
  • Frontend functionality
  • Backend access and permissions

Migration testing was designed to minimize data disruption and ensure that the upgraded website retained the expected behavior of the existing system.

Any issues identified during testing were fixed and retested as part of an iterative QA process.

09. SEO Reconfiguration

Preserving Intercare SARL’s existing search visibility was an important part of the upgrade.

Following migration, the team planned to verify and reconfigure:

  • SEO-friendly URLs
  • Existing URL aliases
  • Meta information
  • 301 redirects
  • 404 error handling
  • Internal links

The objective was to minimize SEO disruption caused by changing the underlying Joomla environment.

10. User Acceptance Testing

Before final deployment, the upgraded website would enter a dedicated User Acceptance Testing (UAT) period.

Intercare’s team would be given the opportunity to review the website, test the required functionality, and provide feedback. Issues identified during this phase would be documented through Zoho and resolved before launch.

This ensured both teams had validated the upgraded website before it replaced the production environment.

11. Training & Documentation

To make the new environment easier for Intercare’s internal team to manage, EbizON included two online CMS training sessions of approximately 1–2 hours each.

The project followed a “train the trainer” approach, enabling selected Intercare power users to become familiar with the CMS and support other internal users.

Training documentation was also planned around:

  • Product Catalog Management
  • Category Management
  • Image & Media Management

12. Deployment & Go-Live

Following UAT approval, EbizON’s team would prepare the Joomla 6 website for production.

The deployment process included creating website and database backups, configuring the production environment, pointing the domain to the upgraded website where required, and conducting a final sanity test before launch.

Results & Feedback

Because the supplied material is a project proposal, it does not document post-launch results or an actual client testimonial. The following is therefore best presented as expected project outcomes, rather than claiming results that have already occurred.
